What to see on a weekend in Warsaw

Our trip through Warsaw in 3 days, will start in the old city or Stare Miasto, which was completely rebuilt and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Day two will be completely dedicated to the new city. On day 3 to the Prague neighborhood, where part of the movie The Pianist was filmed. (Not to be confused with the City of Prague)

Warsaw in 3 days: Day 1, The old city

We will start in the center of the old city and from there we will make many stops of great historical importance.

Zamek Królewski (Royal Castle) and Column of Sigismund III Vasa (Kolumna króla Zygmunta III Wazy)

Its construction culminated in the change of capital, from Krakow to Warsaw. The castle, repeatedly remodeled, was destroyed during World War II. Its reconstruction was carried out thanks to the fragments that survived its destruction and the works of Bernardo Bellotto, painter of the King.
The castle has a museum where its main jewels: two paintings by Rembrandt ('Girl in a frame' and 'The father of the Jewish bride'), as well as works by Bellotto.

Leaving the castle, we headed to the Plac Zamkowy where the highest monument in Warsaw is located, which dates from 1644 and is the work of Vladislao IV in honor of Segismundo III Vasa, his father. The column is 22 meters high plus the figure of the king who is 275 centimeters tall, holding a sword in his right hand is a symbol of courage, and a cross on the left symbolizing his constant willingness to fight evil.

Named after its foundation before the sXV, the city operated at that time with its own administration thus detaching itself from the old city. Of course this part of the city was also destroyed in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising and was later rebuilt as it was.

Pałac Sapiehów (Palace of the Sapiehów family)
Built in late Baroque style with Rococo decorations. The palace underwent multiple uses: home of the family that gave it its name, army barracks, and then it was destroyed along with the rest of the city in 1944. Today it functions as a School Complex for Environmental Protection.

Pomnik Powstania Warszawskiego (Warsaw Uprising Monument)
A monument reminiscent of the thousands of heroes who participated in the uprising of the city. For those who do not know, Warsaw was one of the cities that rebelled against Nazism. Where Polish troops heroically resisted for 63 days, without the support of Allied forces, until they were overtaken by German troops.

Pałac Krasińskich (Palace of the Republic)

Monument to the Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus, who proposed the heliocentric theory. The sculpture is the work of Bertel Thorvaldsen.
